Frosty Forest Pincushion with The Blue Flower

This class is an optional paid part of the Jingle Ball.  You will need an entrance ticket to the Jingle Ball as well as a class ticket to attend.  Jingle Ball tickets and class tickets go on sale on October 16th.  Class previews are so you can see what classes will be available for you to purchase on that date.  
All classes will be recorded so that paid students may access them for up to 30 days after the Ball concludes.

This design was inspired by the beautifully decorated tins of holiday treats (ginger biscuits, panettone, etc.) that I can never resist. I often buy them just because of the lovely container rather than the goodies inside! And this little pincushion cube has the elaborate border to give that special holiday feeling.

On each side panel I’ve chosen a specific animal to feature – something that lives in the snowy winter woods. The cast of characters includes a Snow Leopard, a Wolverine, a Cooper’s Hawk and a Red Fox. Each side is a miniature scene with the featured animal.

I’m doing things a little differently this year and only offering the PDF option for this class. But I’m going to be giving you more information along with that – not only about the supplies I used but also some of the options I didn’t use (such as seeing the design on different color backgrounds). I hope this takes off some of the stress of finding just the “right” materials and frees up your creativity to find the combination that you like the best.

You can stitch up the pincushion sides before class, or just follow along with me (and my lovely assistant Robert) on the day. Then, if you’d like to take more time, you’ll have 30 days to access the video after the Jingle Ball. I’ll also be sending out detailed finishing notes just before the Jingle Ball so you can have those as a reference.

PDF Only ($35 Available Worldwide) – you will receive the pdf chart and a supplies list. You’ll be able to stitch your pincushion sides and bring them to class so we can go through the finishing. There may not be enough time to complete the finishing process for a pincushion during class, particularly if you have any questions or want to just watch and learn, but I’ll go through the whole process so you can see it.

This class calls for the following supplies:

  • A 8” x 12” piece of 32/16 fabric. (If you’d like a different count of fabric, this will change the amount you need.) You don’t need too much fabric in around the edge of the design but at least 1-2 inches is preferable.

  • Interfacing – the model uses sheerweight fusible interfacing but you can use any weight that you’re comfortable with.

  • Threads – a full list is included in the pdf chart you will receive, along with a list of (approximate) DMC substitutions.

  • Fill material of your choice. The model uses a mix of walnut shells and lavender but you could also use wool roving, polyfill, sawdust, etc. I’d recommend adding something heavy, at least at the base in order to keep it stable.

  • A chopstick or pencil to pack your fill material

  • Needle, sewing thread and scissors

  • A waxer (not required but helpful)
