The days of colorful construction paper chains are in the past for me, as my children have outgrown such crafts. But excitement is still in the air each year, as the days get closer to the BIG ONE. This delightful bellpull is a more grown-up way to celebrate the passage of time as Christmas approaches; festive motifs such as Cardinals, a Stocking, a Snow Globe, and a tiny Nativity climb the length of linen alongside the numbers 1 through 25. In class, I will show you each step of the process of turning your stitches into a holiday heirloom that is sure to become a tradition for your family for generations to come. We won’t have time to finish the entire piece during class, but by the end, we will have thoroughly explored all aspects of the finishing so you can easily get it done on your own time.
Although the model is stitched on linen, this design is appropriate for any type or count of cross stitch fabric.
Skills needed to complete this project:
- Ability to read and stitch from a standard cross stitch chart.
- Hand sewing (no previous experience needed; if you can cross stitch, you can hand sew!)
- Optional machine sewing method will also be described.

- 1x skinny 8th yard of Zweigart 36 count Vintage Country Mocha (approximately 6 ¾ x 36 inches)
- 13x full skeins of DMC thread
- 4x full skeins of DMC Etoile thread (sparkly!)
- 1x fusible interfacing cut to size (3 x 36 inches)
- 1x backing fabric (a lovely cotton quilting fabric from Lori Holt’s Bee Cross Stitch collection)
- 2x custom wooden bellpulls with a brass rod; hand made by Matt Twist from a tree that grew right here in our forestland

What you will need to provide from your own home:
- Needle and scissors
- Iron and ironing board or mat
- A few sheets of index weight paper, card stock, or very light matboard
- Household tape

What you will receive:

- 1x welcome and how-to-get-started instructions (finishing instructions will not be made available until class)
- 1x list with suggested shops that are willing to cut the special size needed (this should be considered a pre-order item and subject to availability)
What you will need to provide from your own home:

- A few sheets of index weight paper, card stock, or very light matboard
- Household tape
- 1x skinny 8th yard of 18 or 36 count fabric of your choice (approximately 6 ¾ x 36 inches) *please note that if you choose to stitch on a lower count fabric, you will need more than 36 inches in continuous length, or the ability to add length to your stitching fabric. Dimensions needed for lower counts will be included in your welcome packet.

You will also receive a link or QR code to direct you to a private pre-order listing for the bellpull set, should you wish to have the same one as shown on the cover. Because these are a special item custom made for this class by my very own Matt Twist, aka The Board Room Man, we didn’t want to cause sadness in our PDF students by not making them available. They will likely be listed as a pre-order and may not arrive until well after the Jingle Ball, depending on demand. They will not be available for general sale until next year, so this is your chance to get one ahead of the rest of the world. If you intend to stitch on 16/32 or 20/40 count, you will be able to still use the bellpull by modifying the margins to fit the opening area.
