Colorful ornaments with a hint of retro…intersecting colors for contrast and vibrant energy!
These 2 contemporary ornaments have two sides of stitching, married back to back. Stitch another piece in alternating colors and intersect them into a fun 3-dimensional ornament.
These ornaments have been stitched on 14 count Mill Hill’s perforated PVC material (or Mill Hill’s perforated paper works if you have some). The model shown uses 14 count PVC material which is then cut into the ornament shapes.
The class shows finishing the stitched ornaments and will cover cutting out the shapes, stitching them together, possible suggestions for additional side decoration, and how I handle the same concept with ornaments stitched on linen or Aida, although the demonstration will be on the Mill Hill PVC material. The Contempo Christmas Ornaments pattern includes the charts for both the circle/wavy stripes and stripes/triangles versions shown.
The 2 hour class cost includes the cross stitch chart in digital PDF format for the ornaments. Finishing instructions will be sent prior to class. Hand sewing for finishing will be demonstrated. In class there will be an extra little chart for a bonus ornament design!
Supplies needed to make the Contempo Christmas Ornaments:
We’ve kept the supplies simple with easy-to-source DMC flosses.
You will need Mill Hill 14 count PVC or Mill Hill perforated paper (paper has been discontinued but you may still find or have some). Each ornament of 4 sides will use one sheet. A package of Mill Hill PVC will have two sheets which will allow you to make a total of two 3-D ornaments.
Tapestry needle
Sewing weight cotton thread to match the Mill Hill PVC/paper (I have used white PVC and white thread)
Beads for finishing and supporting intersecting corners- I’ve used small glass seed beads in size 6/0 in clear/silver color. You will need 8 beads per ornament (16 beads if you are making both ornaments)
Scissors (both sharp point embroidery and larger scissors appropriate to cut PVC.
Hanging material for ornaments (I have used floss but you may want a narrow ribbon)
Your class ticket DOES include the PDF of the cross stitch charts.
I hope to see you in class and ready to make some colorful ornaments!
